Las Vegas Budget Woes Continued: Friday, Mayor Oscar Goodman and Las Vegas City Manager Betsy Fretwell will be here to take your phone calls and emails about the City's $70-million dollar budget deficit.

The city could layoff up to 171 employees, so we'll ask the mayor how he plans to avoid that scenario.

For the last couple of months we've been assessing the direction and structure of KNPR's State of Nevada. This six year old public affairs project represents a major commitment of resources at Nevada Public Radio, so we're taking a few weeks to continue this review process and plan for the future. During this review KNPR's State of Nevada will be a one-hour program.

Ricci Kilgore was 19 and aiming for a spot on the Olympic pole vault team, when a car accident crushed that dream. But that didn't stop Ricci. She's now heading to Vancouver for the 2010 Winter Paralympics, and she's got a new dream: gold on the ski slopes.

UNLV is facing deep budget cuts as a result of the special legislative session. University officials have identified the 20 most expensive programs at UNLV and seven of those could be eliminated completely. We talk with the deans of two of those departments and a Nevada regent about how deep the cuts will go as well as the process of choosing who gets the axe.

Last week, Moody's rated Nevada the only state in the country still sinking further into recession.

And on Monday the state reported that unemployment in Clark County remains stuck near 14%.

So, how long will this record unemployment plague the Southern Nevada economy? And will it force some Nevadans to move back home, wherever that might be?

Artist and designer Paul-Felix Montez of Las Vegas Big Art wants to build the Gloves Monument and World Boxing Museum in Downtown Las Vegas. The centerpiece of his vision is an 84' tall stainless steel and bronze sculpture of two boxing gloves standing fist to fist. We talk with Montez about his vision, how he will build it and how he sees the project as a boon for downtowns Las Vegas.

But first, we talk with NDOT's Civil Rights Officer Norma Norman. She will be charged with overseeing the departments compliance with federal mandates like access for the disables, environmental racism and employment discrimination.
